Build 39. Gear Lever

As the transmission tunnel is largely complete, I decided to get this job out of the way as well. There is nothing in the manual about this, and so this was another case of looking at blogs and working out what I needed to do. First job was to track down the 3 bolts that secure the stick in place. These are now flanged hex bolts, which use an 8mm socket to secure, pictured in the bag. I found these in my axle box with the rear brake discs, the gear lever and knob was in a generic white box with some other odds and ends.

This is as simple as removing the cap on the top of the gearbox, and slotting the lever into place, making sure the white cylinder fits nicely in the space below. then put the O ring on top (pictured top left, it only seems to go one way as it needs to fit over the little nobble keeping the lever straight). Then you can put the rubber sleeve over the whole thing.

Fixing it was another easy job, I put a dab of Loctite on each thread as recommended by CC, and then tightened them to 11Nm as per the 2015 manual!

Next up, I connected the two spade connectors (In the last image above, they are the blurred white connections behind the stick) to the two black connectors that came out of the furthest forward part of the gearbox. The 2 connectors close to the gear lever are not used and were tied to the gearbox our of the way. I also took this time to cable tie up anything that was loose and flapping about so I can draw a line on the transmission tunnel soon!

To finish it off I pulled the silver insulation down over the top, and loosely attached the gear knob (this will come off for the tunnel fit so no point tightening it up fully!
